Christmas stuff #1

Brand spanking new Christmas stuff will be along before Christmas, but in the mean time I wanted to reintroduce some of my older Christmas stuff, as it's only at this time of year it gets any attention. Some of you won't have seen it before, some of you may. Check it out and I'll see you soon!

  • This animation was a little number inspired by 'claims direct' style adverts (where there's a blame, there's a claim!) It was first released a couple of years back but was reanimated last year to bring up to stnadard with my more recent stuff. Featuring voices by Woodgie.
  • This animated Christmas card was released last year.
  • The original version of Happy Bunny also starred in his own Christmas episode back in 2008.
  • Even further back I made this Christmassy game!

new stuff in the store

There is still time for you to buy merchandise in time for Christmas, so I've added a few new bits to the store. Even though it was supposed to be available for the last time last year I relented and, the Calendar is available once again (although obviously in a 2011 flavour) And you can now pur-chase every single movie monkey on the very own t-shirt!.

Ho Ho Ho Mo Fo Fo Sho

The logo has been chrismassafied ( is that a word- spellcheck says No.) and now looks very festive and shiny. Maybe that will distract you from the fact that I haven't posted in ages. No? Ah well I'd better knock something up before Christmas then. In the mean time let me take this oppertunity to say that if you're looking for a present for a loved one, you could do worse than check out our snazzy merchandise.

It's a boy (monkey)

I often produce designs for cards for various occasions for frineds and family, and like to share them with you on the site. Long time readers may remember a fair few have been for someone who is referred to here as Monkey Pirate Zombie's Bigest Fan. MPZBF recently had a baby (Monkey Pirate Zombie's Littlest Fan?) so I made a design to mark the occasion in a faux cut-out arts and craft stylee. Click to embiggen.

Incoming...

Just checking in to let you lovely people know that an animation is in progress and will be with you quite soon, all being well. So I will see you then, if not sooner. Word to your mothers.

hello strangers

I'm sorry it's been so long since my last post and even longer since the last animation. It wasn't supposed to happen but somehow I've had kind of an unplanned summer sabbatical, which should be over from now on.  Thanks for sticking with me. Grovelling over. Two things for you today. Firstly I wrote this article for the website UK anime news, in tribute to one of my favourite animation directors, Satoshi Kon, who tragically died last month. Secondly on a lighter note I have returned to the Movie Monkeys series and produced two new additions.

Game over?

Game fans! Imagine a parallel universe, where Mario never went to the Mushroom kingdom. What would happen to Princess Peach? Here's my vision, in a picture I did for a friend. It's the first picture I've drawn for ages in a Japanese Manga stylee, so I was a bit out of practice, but I think it came out OK. Click for bigger!

new picture, other stuff also....

The fourth and final July Birthday card is here. It is tradition that I have to design a card for every family occasion, and it has become also tradition that I share it with you. You lucky people. This is designed for a 3 year old. Which explains a lot. Click for bigger.

On other news, a couple of minor updates have been made to the site. Firstly the front now looks slightly more shiny and more importantly the headlines are visible on the page, so you can see at a glance when I update. I have also added a new page called words. Here you can easily find my text-based stuff such as The Ministry Of Misinformation and my old Blog. Finally a little widget is now available at the bottom of each post so you can easily share on facebook, twitter and other such sites.

double dose day

Two new pieces of artwork have been added to stuff and nonsense- both to mark family birthdays (yes, I have an awful lot in July, and there's still one to go!). One is for my dinky niece's first birthday- I wonder if you can guess which one? For all the pictures I've produced for cards this month I've gone back to a more simple hand-drawn look (although they were finished off and coloured in photoshop. Click the images for full size.

Yo! Yoga monkey!

Here's a new piece of artwork that I produced for my sister's birthday card and I wanted to share with you. The explanation behind it is that my sis is big into yoga. So what could be better than a yoga monkey? Click to see the image full size.

Balls to the world Cup!

Monkey Pirate Zombie will be one of the few UK based sites not to be swept up in World Cup fever. The World Cup is I believe a 'Kickball' tournament in which the Kickballers try to kick the ball (with their foot) into the Ball-hole. People everywhere (except Americaland) tend to make a big fuss about it for some reason, even though it is not AT ALL IMPORTANT. Kickballers get paid a ridiculous amount, presumably because it's such a horrible job, and they have to run around outside in the cold.

Joking aside, we will be a football free haven, and to celebrate our indifference, I've made this poster.Print it and stick in your window. Stick it on a flag outside your car. Stick it on your facebook profile. Show the world that you don't care!

Olivia New-toon-John

A small history lesson. Waaaay back in the mists of time (circa 2005) I knocked up a short cartoon to test out my new graphics tablet. That cartoon was Happy Bunny and it ended up as my most popular toon at that time, and it span off into one of my longest running series. Fast forward to now when I just have bought a much more fancy shiny graphics tablet. What better way to christen it then, than  a return to the rabbit? This is not a straight up remake but more of a remix, with a redesigned HB.

Worst. Month. Ever

It's been nearly a month since I've updated, and I'd like to apologize I haven't told you sooner, but it's not been a good month for me personally. Firstly I had a death in the family, which was followed by my worst bout of tonsillitis yet. One way or another I haven't really been feeling up to making new stuff. I'm recovering now (gradually) but I've decided to call May a write-off and I'll see you next month when I'll try and make it up to you all.

Sir Isaac Newtoon!

The new animation is here! It's actually a remake of one of our first animations but it's completely freshly animated and much slicker than before, but it'll be new to many of you. It marks not only our 6th birthday but the return of my series 'Trailerama'. This will be the first of a number of episodes you should expect in the near future. It also marks the debut of a new actor as the Trailer voice guy, who will be voicing some of the episodes. You can check it out in three nurticious flavours.

You can watch in in glorious HD in youtube, You can grab the podcast version here or you can watch the original flash version right here.

We is Six! We've come a long way baby!

Six years. Six frickin' years. Six  years ago Mummy Internet pushed out this site out of her klacker and we came kicking and screaming into virtual life...  It's hard to believe it's being going that long but I feel it's come along way from where it's started and so have my animating skills. We maybe still a long way from the weebl's stuffs and Fat Pies of this world and we've got a long way to go, but I just want to say a huuuuge thankyou from the bottom of my heart to everybody who's been a part of it- those who've helped with voices, music, or just with your support. And to YOU! Yes, you! You all rock. Here's to the next six. Now where's my frickin' cake?

Monday, 19 April 2010

New stuff should be hitting next week. MPZ is 6 years old on the 28th so you expect some stuff around then. Six frickin' years. Wow. Who'd-a-thunk-it? Incidentally, if you make us a cake, chocolate is our favourite. I'm just saying....

Wednesday, 31 March 2010

aah that's better..

And we're back. For reals this time. For the last few days there has been considerable downtime, broken pages and the site has moved all over the internet but all is good now. The downside is that I am not able to have this news page hosted at the homepage, so I've installed a new welcome page. I could use some internet jiggery-pokery to redirect you instantly here but that has it's own problems. And I kind of like the welcome page-what do you think?  Let me know, and if there's a big reaction I may change my mind. In the meantime I can get back to what I (hopefully) do best- actually making cartoons, comics and stuff!

Saturday, 27 March 2010

what's new?

If you're particularly observant, you'll have noticed that we've had a rather big spit and polish lately. There's the new logo for a start. It's actually the first time the 'mascots' have been redrawn in about 5 years, and I thought it was about time. I've also had quite a spring clean and streamline of the archives. The news archive only goes back to the last redesign (back in 2008) and the old news page is no longer available. Everything that's been posted on the site has now been divided into three categories: comics, cartoons (animations) and stuff (for everything else). So you can browse that section by clicking the relevant word in the banner!Stuff and nonsense is divided into sub-categories so If you want something more specific (for example downloads/wallpaper or movie monkeys, you can find a link for it in the sidebar. If you really want to look at pre-2008 animations, comic-ery or stuff you can find it in the archive section in the site map. I think this all makes the site easier to navigate ( and makes it easier to maintain) let me know what you think!  In case you're wondering what happened to the games section, it's long overdue some attention. While it's currently confined to the archive section , look out for a return to games in the future,

wheeeeeeee!

For the first time in a wee while, I present a new photoshop- in a blend of photoshop stylee with my old style of single panel cartoons. Click the image to biggerize it, should you be so inclined.

Coming Attractions

I have decided to dedicate time into getting the site redesign finished. I'm not sure if it will be a complete overhaul or more of a subtle improvement yet, so I can't say how long it will take. Don't expect many updates in the meantime- although I'll try and do some if it takes a while. At the time of writing, with no series ongoing and having just had to scrap my current project I am not sure what my next animation will be. The world , as they say, is my lobster. See you on the other side.

Lovely linkage

You may have heard of the site DeviantArt that allows users to share their artwork galleries online.  I'm here today to let you know that my good friend Siobhan (who's work has once appeared on this very site) has a gallery there and thoroughly marvelous it is too. You should check it out by clicking right here

Coming Attractions

2010 has started well so far, but I've got big plans for mpz in the coming months! I'm planning on beefing up my comics output and with that in mind MPZ now has a space on Drunkduck, one of the web's top webcomics communities. More info on that is coming soon. A site redesign should also be happening in the near future. A new collaboration with proving ground is in the pipeline too, so watch this space...

Lovebytes: the complete saga (sort of)

Lovebytes is now available on Youtube in HD. When I came up with the idea originally it was called UD8.tv- (pronounced you-date in case you were wondering). The plan was always to release the episodes separately and then combine them into a longer animation. Now six episodes and a name change later it's done. It was made complicated by the fact that I switched to doing animations in HD part way through, so the earlier episodes had to be tinkered with. The finished project only contains four of the episodes- I decided that the episodes featuring Lord Squiffington and Dotty were the weaker two so I thought it worked better without them. They can still be viewed here on the site.

So, that's it for Lovebytes. There may always be a second 'series' if this one proves popular (and I come up with enough ideas) and the characters may be back in other forms. But for now at least it's finished. You can check it out

Lovebytes episode 6!

Here it is the first new animation of the year, of the decade even! It was meant to be done before Christmas but stuff got in the way. This follows directly on from the last episode in that it reuses a character from the Big brother animation but with a new take on the character. The character was initially played by my lovely friend but long story short I had to recast- and was able to take the character in a new direction. It now features a fantastic performance by a brilliant actress named Annabelle Bay.

Warning: Contains adult humour

You can watch it here. (Flash version) OR watch it/download it here as the podcast.
